Humanitas University and Humanitas Istituto Clinico Catanese open new nursing degree in Catania
A course with a strong focus on practical experience, with simulation technologies and professionalised internships in territorial, home and hospital settings. With the support of professionals from one of the best national oncology centres, according to Agenas.
Humanitas University, the university dedicated to Life Sciences based in Pieve Emanuele (Milan), Bergamo and Castellanza (Varese), is opening a new campus in Catania with a three-year degree course in Nursing. Open to 30 students, the course was made possible thanks to the close collaboration with Humanitas Istituto Clinico Catanese , where the lectures will be held.
An opportunity for many young people to begin their training as future health professionals close to home. According to Fnopi (Federazione Nazionale Ordini Professioni Infermieristiche)* in Sicily there is a shortage of over 5,700 nurses and, according to the Report Alma Laurea 2022, 85% of nursing graduates find employment one year after completing their studies, both in hospitals and in territorial services.
“The need to train new professionals capable of offering quality and customised care that takes into account local needs has become increasingly evident in recent years,” comments Prof. Luigi Maria Terracciano Rector of Humanitas University. “This is why we believe that it is fundamental for a University to collaborate with the academic and healthcare realities that already operate in the area in order to strengthen the courses on offer and the service provided to society. In this process, the valuable collaboration with Humanitas Istituto Clinico Catanese plays a crucial role’.
The Humanitas University didactic approach is based on the student’s central role, closely assisted by tutors who oversee the learning process, with the possibility of strengthening their clinical skills directly in the hospital.
“The presence of students attending the degree course is a new incentive for our professionals, who will be engaged as lecturers, tutors and internship guides in supporting and helping them acquire their skills. Students will be able to learn in a modern, well-organised hospital, which stands out nationally for the treatment of various diseases, particularly in the oncology field,” comments Giuseppe Sciacca, CEO of the Humanitas Hospital Istituto Clinico Catanese.
“The new campus in Catania will give young people from Catania and elsewhere the opportunity to access a training course with a high rate of post-graduate employment,” explains Dr Beatrice Mazzoleni, Director of the Degree Course in Nursing at Humanitas University. “In addition, it will offer a thorough preparation through practical internships in various territorial and home care settings, as well as highly specialised hospital internships. Students will also be able to take advantage of sophisticated simulation technology, in which complex and advanced clinical scenarios with a high degree of fidelity are recreated“.
The entrance test for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing will be held online on Friday 1st September, 2023. It will be made up of 100 questions on logical reasoning, chemistry, biology, mathematics and physics.
The tuition fees range from €1,500 to €3,500 per year of the course, depending on the family’s income. Additionally, 2 scholarships, allowing for full exemption for the three years of the course, are available.
