Traditional Chinese Medicine Seminar
Wei Jie, Director of the Emergency Department and Director of Teaching and Researching Section of Emergency and Critical Care medicine at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan university, has held a Seminar on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), an important part of Chinese culture that is still nowadays trusted and used in the country. In fact, almost every Chinese city has a TCM hospital and almost every general hospital has a TCM department. Moreover, China currently has sixteen University of Chinese Medicine.
The classical basic theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine are vital essence theory, yin-yang theory, five element theory, visceral outward manifestation theory, qi-blood-fluid theory, meridian theory and etiology theory and its “biggest characteristic – explains the Director – is to regard the human body itself as an organic whole.”
“TCM has its own limitations though, and cannot explain many problems; that’s why it is necessary to combine Traditional Chinese Medicine with Western Medicine” – concludes Wei Jie.
