I obtained a PhD in immunology in 2007 (French Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM-Unit 564, University of Angers, France).
Since January 2016, I am Assistant Professor at the Humanitas University, Pieve Emanuele, Milan, Italy. My research activity is focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in innate immunity and inflammation and their role in cancer. My expertise and leadership in the fields of neutrophil biology, immunology, immunopathology and cancer can be underlined by primary research articles and review articles published in prime journals (e.g. Cell, Nature, Immunity, J Exp Med, Nat Rev Immunol, Blood).

In particular, the focus of my research is the identification of the role of neutrophils in cancer and the investigation of the cross-talk between neutrophils and other leukocytes, including innate-like T cells. Our group is also interested in studying the role of neutrophils and innate-like T cells in antitumor therapy efficacy and in their clinical significance in patients. We revealed the occurrence and clinical significance of tumor associated neutrophils (TANs) in colorectal cancer (Galdiero et al., Int J Cancer. 2016). Recently, we identified a tripartite interaction involving neutrophils, macrophages and a subset of unconventional T cells essential for mounting an effective antitumor immune response in selected tumors (Ponzetta et al. Cell, 2019).
