Gianluigi Condorelli is professor of cardiology, director of the post-graduate school of cardiology at Humanitas University, Milan, and head of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and of cardiovascular research at the Humanitas Research Hospital.
He graduated cum laude in Medicine at the University “Federico II”, Naples, Italy, in 1989 and received a PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences from the University “Tor Vergata”, Rome, in 1993.
He is a practicing cardiologist who trained in molecular cardiology at Harvard University, Boston, and in molecular oncology at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia.
He has been faculty at Thomas Jefferson University and at the University of California San Diego, La Jolla and director of the Department of Medicine, National Research Council of Italy. His research has been funded by grants from international agencies such the NHLBI-NIH USA, the European Union, the European Research Council (Advanced grant), the Fondation LeDucq and other relevant national ones.
Dr Condorelli’s work focuses on the molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases, in particular heart failure, studying the role of non-coding RNAs and epigenetics in this disease. Other lines of research are related to the understanding of the mechanisms of cardiomyopathies (by means of genetics and iPSCs), to the identification of biomarkers of cardiovascular diseases and, more recently, to the understanding of the role of innate and acquired immunity in cardiovascular diseases.
