USMLE Preparation: helping students access US medical specialties

From May 29^th to June 1^st, Humanitas University held its first peer-to-peer, hands-on workshop designed for medical students who are interested in going to the United States for their medical residencies and eventually work as physicians in that country. 

Access to medical specializations in the US (residencies and fellowships) is in fact regulated by the challenging US Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). 
Humanitas University’s degree allows to apply for the USMLE since the University is listed in the IMED (International Medical Education Directory). Futhermore, Humanitas University prepares its students for the USMLE, by providing a curriculum in line with the requested educational standards and collaborating with the US National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME®).

1st USMLE Examination Preparation Seminar

Humanitas USMLE Preparation Seminar was held by C. Gabbi MD, PhD, Specialist in Internal Medicine, and N. Sweed, MD.

It began with an introduction into the Medical Education in the US and an overview of the USMLE examination, including the registration process, the exam structure and the scoring system. The seminar also covered necessary resources and study plans creating an optimum test strategy suited for each student.

Good part of the course was dedicated to practical training for both the hands-on and the computer based tests. At the end of each day, one-to-one sessions were foreseen, in which participants had the great opportunity to meet with advisors and get a better idea of what to expect.

Instructors concluded by covering topics relevant to the day of the exam and how to apply to residencies or fellowships in the US.
