Humanitas University inaugurates its Bike Station
In occasion of the European Mobility Week, the University chose to enhance its sustainable mobility services with a green tech solution.
Humanitas University inaugurates its Bike Station: an innovative facility dedicated to the promotion of sustainable mobility for students, staff, and visitors to the Campus. The station will be active from 22 September 2024, the same day as Car-Free Day, which marks the conclusion of the European Bike Mobility Week.
The Bike Station offers 30 spaces for both traditional and electric bycicles. The area, which is completely covered to protect the vehicles from the weather, is only accessible via a recognition system and equipped with free charging points for e-Bikes.
Safe and easy access via the App
Using the Humanitas University Bike Station is possible by making a reservation via the ‘FarBooking,’ app available for Android and iOS devices. Once you have logged in, simply select the chosen date from the calendar; each reservation is valid from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the selected day, in order to guarantee an efficient and safe use of the Bike Station. The entrance to the Bike Station can be unlocked via Bluetooth using the ‘FarBooking’ app.
Integration with Sustainable Mobility Services
In addition to the Bike Station, Humanitas University has already implemented other sustainable mobility services. The Car Pooling programme, launched in 2023, allows staff and students to share journeys to the Campus; the Car Sharing service, available at subsidized rates for the university community, makes it easier to travel in a cheaper and more environmentally friendly way.
A green and connected Campus
The Humanitas University Campus is a cutting-edge example of sustainability and integration with the surrounding environment. Designed by architecture firm Filippo Taidelli, the Campus was built with a focus on energy efficiency and the use of sustainable materials.
The buildings, including the Mario Luzzatto Student House and the Roberto Rocca Innovation Building, opened in 2023, are constructed with advanced energy-saving solutions, such as geothermal heat pumps, low-temperature radiant panels and photovoltaic panels on the roofs. These active systems, combined with well-planned climate strategies, have enabled the building to obtain the Leed Gold Certification, a well-known worldwide standard for environmentally friendly constructions.
Moreover, the campus is immersed in a green setting connected the Parco Agricolo Sud, a natural area that perfectly integrates environmental sustainability with architecture. This attention to nature is not only landscape-related, but functional, contributing to the well-being of students and staff, as well as improving air quality and thermal insulation.
Humanitas University is easily accessible by bicycle thanks to the network of cycle paths that connect the Campus to the surrounding areas. Students and staff of the University can find the map of all cycle paths on the following page.
